It Confuses Me So

The Wizards pulled out a huge double-overtime win against Detroit tonight, 120-114. They beat the Pistons. Let that sink in a moment. Say it again. The Wizards beat the Pistons. Does this statement mean anything of importance to you? It should. It's a big deal. They had lost 10 in a row to the Pistons. They had lost five games in a going into last night's game with the Pistons. It was a slide that thrust them below the .500 threshold at 5-6. It was in Detroit.

The Wizards were badly in need of a win after losing to teams such as the Timberwolves, Nets and Magic. All of those loses were inexcusable. So a below average Washington team limps into Detroit needing a win as badly as any team needs one this early in the year. It doesn't look good. The Pistons were undefeated at home and had only two losses on the season. But the Wizards played well enough to win and squeezed out a tight one against quite possibly the league's best team. (Maybe the Spurs are better.)

So here are the Wizards, an anomoly of a basketball team. They beat up on four crappy teams to open the season, then beat the Spurs, then lose five in a row, then beat the Pistons. What kind of team am I watching? A solid group of teammates who can pull themselves together and beat the best two teams in the league? Or, a discombobulated mess of parts that don't mesh, which ultimately results in prolonged spouts of losing? I really can't decide between the two options. I guess we'll have to wait and see. They are 6-6, which means there are 70 games left to play. Still, I'd like to have a handle on this team soon.

I do, however, feel Washington is on the verge of a let-down. They play the Bobcats tonight, and after an exhausting two-overtime contest and a trip to Charlotte, they may be a little weary.

(I'd also like to add for good measure that Walt Harris, a Redskins cornerback, is a piece of garbage.)

Before I go, I must add the requisite:

GO WIZARDS!!!

YAY, GILBERT!!!
