Congrats, Elon

Congratulations are in order for the Elon men's basketball team winning the North Division of the Southern Conference in just its third year in the conference. The Phoenix are 13-12 overall and 9-3 in conference. They have won 11 of their last 14 games after an awful start to what was supposed to be, and has quickly become, a promising season. They also recorded a big 74-69 win against Clemson University Dec. 30 that spurred eight straight victories. So congrats to head coach Ernie Nestor and the entire team. I hope their good fortune continues through the last two games of the year and into the Southern Conference Tournament. Maybe we'll be seeing Elon in the Big Dance.

In other unrelated basketball news, former SoCon member East Tennessee State University had a Tim Smith bobble head giveaway for the first 1,800 fans to show up for a game earlier in the season. I'm not against bobble heads, but I have to wonder if the athletics department saw the doll before it was manufactured. I may not have placed the right hand directly on that part of the anatomy if I were in charge of the design decisions.
